Numonday fees explained: £5 a month, Stripe's cut, and genuinely nothing else

Most marketplace fee guides are long because the fee stacks are long. This one is short, because Numonday's isn't. The UK handmade marketplace charges sellers £5 a month, takes 0% commission, and has no listing fees — unlimited listings are included. That's the whole relationship.

So what does a sale actually cost?

One thing: payment processing. Numonday doesn't process payments itself — buyers pay through your own connected Stripe account, and Stripe's standard fee comes off each transaction. For most UK consumer cards that's 1.5% + 20p. On an £18.20 sale (a £15 item plus £3.20 postage), Stripe takes about 47p — a 2.6% effective rate, before you spread the £5 subscription across the month's sales.

Because payments go straight to your Stripe account, there's no payout schedule and no held balance — Numonday never touches the money.

On that same £18.20 sale, Etsy's full UK stack costs a non-VAT-registered seller about £2.82 (15.5%) — our UK Etsy Fee Calculator shows the line-by-line working. The gap per sale is roughly £2.35, which is why the £5 subscription pays for itself surprisingly fast — from about 3 sales a month.

The catches (honest section)

The £5 is due whether you sell or not. A month with zero sales on Etsy costs you nearly nothing; on Numonday it costs £5. Flat fees reward volume and punish dormancy.
You need a Stripe account. Signup is free and done from the Numonday dashboard, but it's a real onboarding step (business details, bank account) that Etsy handles invisibly.
Footfall. Numonday's traffic is a small fraction of Etsy's. 0% commission on sales you don't make is still £0 income. Most makers we'd expect to benefit treat Numonday as a second, low-cost channel rather than a replacement.
Card-type variance. Stripe charges more for premium business cards (1.9%) and non-UK cards (2.5–3.25%) — see our Stripe fee guide. The blended reality is usually a touch above the headline 1.5%.
